FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
CHICAGO (April 9, 2020) - The 39th Annual Chicago Music Awards (CMA) scheduled for May 17, 2020, has been postponed to May 16, 2021, and for the first time in its history will combine Chicago’s best artists from two consecutive years - 2019 and 2020.
“While our society faces an unprecedented global health crisis, the staff, CMA Committee and friends of Martin’s International extend sincere thoughts to those working on the frontlines bringing support and relief to those affected by the pandemic. We are standing with fellow musicians and performing artists
in Chicago and around the world to bring the healing power of music and the performing arts to those in need,” said Ephraim Martin, president and founder of Martin’s International.
The CMA is the only awards event that has a 38-year history of honoring and recognizing the significant contributions of notable Chicagoans and their impact on the music and entertainment industry around the globe.
The Chicago Music Awards nominees are selected by elite members of the industry, such as performing artists, musicians, producers, promoters, DJs, record labels/stores, engineers, songwriters, entertainment media, radio disc-jockeys, and event venue owners, who will extend the nominations process to cover the period January 2019 to December 2020. These experts will officially start submitting nominations January 1, 2021, to email or www.chicagomusicawards.org.
The postponement has the full support of Martin’s International Directors, CMA team members, and some of its legendary partners, iconic entertainers, and emcees, such as NBC TV (a sponsorship partner for more than 20 years); renowned news anchor Art Norman; Bluesman Frank Pellegrino - Kingston Mines Blues Club; legendary crooner Marshall Thompson of the Chi- Lites; radio personality DJ Casper creator of the dance sensation the “Cha Cha Slide” and the King of House Music – Farley Jackmaster, among others.
Martin’s International other event, the 38th IRAWMA (International Reggae and World Music Awards) which was scheduled to take place in Kingston, Jamaica on March 29th, was successfully transitioned to a virtual broadcast event, March 21st, on Onstage TV, IRIE FM radio, YouTube @irawma and @onstagetv.
Martin’s International expresses special thanks to our legacy and current sponsors; NBC 5 Chicago/Telemundo TV, Rogers Park Fruit Market, LaFruteria, Inc., All United Imports, Old World Market, Kingston Mines Blues Club, Wallace Funeral Home, African Spectrum, Rasta Love Punch, Golden Krust Bakery, The International Festival of Life (IFOL), IRAWMA, The Jerk, Seafood & Vegan Fest (JSVFest), and others for making the CMA a success over the years.
